The A*/AL1 Primary Maths Course offers PSLE students the opportunity to streamline their learning to maximise results.
Weekly Sessions
Students attend weekly sessions and learn essential concepts, strategies and exam techniques during our primary math tuition. More importantly, our coaches use strong and proven Critical Thinking Training techniques developed by Mr Terry Chew to help students develop the Critical Thinking Skills they need to improve 2-grades within 6 months. As part of the Customised Roadmap to A*/AL1, we place high importance on Progress Tracking, where Coaches identify the gaps in students’ knowledge and fill them up. This is to ensure strong conceptual understanding and to keep students on track to scoring the results that they want. Students who are found to be weak in a certain topic will be called back for additional class at no additional cost. Our primary math tuition has a small class size to ensure that coaches are able to give each child the attention he or she requires to make learning effective.
Intensive Revision
These weekly sessions are supplemented with Intensive Holiday Revision Programmes to consolidate their learning. During these holiday programmes, the students’ abilities are stretched by exposing them to upcoming topics or non-routine primary maths questions that are likely to appear in the exam. It also gives Coaches an opportunity to provide personalised and thorough help to students for primary maths topics which need improvement.
No Homework / No Drilling
Due to our robust Progress Tracking and Intensive Revision schemes, no homework is required. All practicing is done during the course under Coach’s supervision and guidance. Students are highly recommended to practice the topics at home if needed.
Our primary math tuition is suitable for all students enrolled in Primary 4 to 6 in local schools.
Due to limited capacity, we are unable to guarantee availability of slots in our weekly classes. To find out if slots are available on the days and time you require, kindly Contact Us for the latest information.
As educators, we understand that maths can often be a challenging subject for primary school students. It is especially important for students to master primary maths as it lays the foundation for their mathematical journey and builds essential skills that they will utilise throughout their academic years. This prepares them for their PSLE Math examination, which serves as a crucial milestone in their academic journey, determining their placement in secondary education.
However, many students face common challenges in primary maths. At Terry Chew Academy, a top Singapore math tuition centre, we recognise the importance of overcoming these challenges and offer primary math tuition to support students in achieving academic success. We have maintained a track record of AL4 to AL1 (or a minimum 2-grade improvement) within 6 months, or less.
Primary maths presents several hurdles for students. Here are some of the common challenges that they encounter:
Many students struggle with a weak understanding of primary maths fundamental concepts, such as number sense, place value, and basic operations. This hinders their progress as they move on to more complex topics.
Students often lack the skills and strategies needed to solve primary maths problems effectively. They may struggle with identifying key information, selecting appropriate problem-solving methods, or interpreting word problems.
Some students find it challenging to apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations. They struggle with recognising when and how to use certain primary maths concepts, leading to difficulties in problem-solving.
A lack of confidence in primary maths can significantly impact a student’s performance. Students may doubt their abilities, fear making mistakes, or feel overwhelmed by the subject, hindering their progress.
Enrolling in primary math tuition can play a vital role in helping students overcome these common challenges they face. Our primary math tuition provides targeted support and guidance to enhance students’ performance in the following ways:
Our PSLE math tuition focuses on the specific requirements of the PSLE examination. We provide targeted practice materials, past-year papers, and mock exams to familiarise students with the exam format, question types, and level of difficulty. This targeted preparation enhances their confidence and readiness for the actual exam.

We teach students a range of problem-solving strategies and techniques that are specifically tailored to primary maths. Our primary maths tutors guide students in breaking down complex problems, identifying key information, and selecting the most appropriate problem-solving methods. With regular practice and guidance, our students develop effective Math Olympiad skills necessary to approach and tackle complicated primary maths questions with speed and accuracy.
Time management is a critical aspect of PSLE math. Our primary math tuition incorporates time management techniques to help students allocate their time wisely during exams. We provide practice exercises and timed assessments to improve their speed and accuracy while maintaining a systematic approach to problem-solving.
Mr Terry Chew’s strong and proven teaching methodology has helped many students to achieve A1 in O Level A/E maths, and so will your child.
"I have been taking classes in this academy and it has really helped expand and enhance my mathematic knowledge. before joining, i participated in math olympiad competitions but was unable to score and achieve awards. however, through the classes i have gained many skills as to solve mathematical problems with the help of my kind coaches. although the classes are challenging, i really enjoy the lessons as it allows me to think out of the box and learn. now, in competitions i am also better equipped with the knowledge i need, even attaining gold and silver in competitions."
